I'll install a decision standard that makes the right choice clear every time, no matter the outcome.

What if you could be sure that every decision you make is the right one?

I am aware of how this sounds. So let me be precise about what I mean.

Most of us, without ever quite deciding to, judge our decisions by the outcomes they lead to.

A decision that leads to the outcome we want, is a good decision. A decision that leads to an outcome we don't want, is a bad decision. To many of us, this feels like a responsible way to judge the correctness of our decisions.

The trouble is that how something turns out is a mixture of our judgement and a great many things which are well-beyond our control.

So a decision that leads to an outcome we hope for, leads to that outcome for many reasons we have nothing to do with. Likewise, a decision that leads to an outcome we perceive to be bad can still indicate a good choice.

There is an older view that leaders of the past knew that modern leaders have lost.

A decision is right if it was made well; if it met a standard we set before we knew how things would go.

This is how — when you create your own decision standard with me — you can make the right choice every time. Leading to good outcomes, yes. But more importantly ensuring that every decision you make builds confidence and joy in your day to day, no matter the outcome.

Decisions determine everything in our day-to-day role

This isn't hubris. I mean everything.

Deciding badly, or slowly, or well but without following through, has a cost.

Here are a few of those costs:

  • A bad decision made in March can still be causing you trouble in November.
  • A slow decision can impact your reputation, new business, or your perceived competency.
  • A poorly structured decision can diminish your perceived value as a leader.

The strategies, the hires, the acquisitions, the deals you walk away from: each is a decision before it is an outcome, and everything that follow a decision inherits its quality.

Executives spend 40% of their working hours deciding, and practically all of them know a lot of that time is wasted due to slow or non-optimised decision making.

Our decisions are the origin of everything downstream.

Why hire a philosopher in your corner and not a coach, mentor, or therapist?

Here's is how I would describe the differences between philosophers and those other things:

A therapist works with us on how we feel about our decisions, and why.

A coach will ask us questions until we arrive at your own answers.

A mentor tells us what they did, at a different company, with much different factors at play.

A consultant addresses a particular single problem and provides us with data and recommendations, but they don't teach you how to make decision in the future.

Each of these is a service that has its place, and philosophers aren't (necessarily) a replacement for these other things.

What having our own philosopher will do is install within us a decision making standard so that every decision we make in the future (ones that have a real impact on our day-to-day lives and the lives of those we work with and of those we serve), will be the right decision.

This standard becomes automatic overtime and so, rather quickly, I make myself redundant in your life. You have everything you need to adhere to the framework and continue making good and correct decisions.

So, in a way, you are buying an asset. Or, if you prefer a more technical metaphor, you are installing software inside your own head that ensures you make the right decision, efficiently, every time.

Think not only about what that will positively impact your work, but also how it will aid you in developing a strong trust of yourself and your direction in life.
